CLEVELAND AND CLYDESDALE TOWERS

scheme addition and renovation
Client Optima Community Association
Cost £7.2m
Status completed 2003

These towers in the heart of Birmingham, when built, were the tallest residential blocks in Europe

This scheme upgraded the existing envelope with a new insulated render exterior, new windows, balcony rails and all new reception areas on the ground floor.

New residents facilities were provided on the ground floor of each block including new common rooms, kitchenette and an office.

THe need for an external gas riser was exploited to emphasis the verticality and create a sparkle to the towers.

Subtle changes to the roofline, using existing features of the buildings have created a new skyline and sophisticated accent lighting to create identity in the cityscape.
